    Notes
    • At his christening he is described as ROBERT, s. of Robert and Elizabeth.

There is also no proof that the Robert b 1693 is, in fact, the same Robert as the Robert of Sheldwich who married Ann Dodd, then Elizabeth Coverney (or Coveney) and finally Elizabeth Wildbore.

At his first marriage he is described as of Sheldwich and Ann Dodd is described as of Ashford.

A daughter of Robert and Ann was buried at Sheldwich on 3/7/1722. This could have been either Ann or Elizabeth.

Ann Dodd was buried on 5/11/1731. A marriage licence was then granted to a Robert Filmer of Sheldwich, widre, and Elizabeth Coverney of Faversham, spr, on 24/12/1731. At S.M. Bredin Cant. (St Mary Bredin, Canterbury). She was probably his second wife, but there were only some seven weeks between Ann's burial and his subsequent marriage. (NB Bruce Filmer records the marriage at St Mary Bredin, Canterbury, a parish just south of the city centre . Muriel Sonne records the marriage at St Mary Breadman, Canterbury, a parish in the city centre, and this is supported by an copy of the Register of St Mary Breadman for the year 1731/1732 which records the marriage of 'Robert Filmer of Sheldwich and Elizabeth Coveney of Faversham mar: 24 Dec [1731].

A further marriage licence was granted on 3/10/1741
to a Robert Filmer of Sheldwich, widr, and Eliz Wildbore of Preston nr Faversham. At Sturry or Preston. This was probably Robert's third wife.

The will of a Robert Filmer of Sheldwich, Yeoman, dated 9/2/1750 was proved in the Archdeacons Court of Canterbury on 2/8/1755. Reference A 95 34:
