Dr. John S. and his wife Lou (Louise or Louisa Alexander) Hougham are buried in an old pioneer cemetery in Perkinsville, Madison County, Indiana. John died at the home of his daughter, Kate Hougham Falana in Hamilton County, Indiana. John served as a physician in 1864 with the 136 Indiana Infantry during the Civil War. He went by the name "JS" until around 1910 because he had an uncle John S.(Sherer) Hougham (half brother of his father Jonathon) who was a well known professor in Franklin Indiana and then at Purdue. His son Frank Hougham and wife Lena (born Applonia Benhardt) Hougham are also buried in the same cemetery. It is located very near the original farm homestead of John S. and then son Frank. I do not know if John's father, Jonathon Hougham owned the land before him. Frank Hougham was a mechanical draftsman and worked and lived in New Jersey, Illinois, Indiana and West Virginia. When he retired, living in Indianapolis, Indiana at the time, he and his wife moved back to the farm in Perkinsville. My father, Boynton Frank Moore who is now 90, was given the name Frank as his middle name after his grandpa Frank Hougham and recalls many fond memories of the farm. Frank's wife, Applonia (Lena) Benhardt was born in Kaiserslautern, Germany and came to the US as a very young child (1877). She spoke German to my father often and he can still recite the things she said to him in German. - Judy Aikman
