counterchanged.-In St Nicholas Church at Ash there is a memorial for John Brooke of Brooke St.obt.l582 S.P. with the above arms. Brookes Arms are quartered with Houghom.Besides John Brooke marrying Joan Hougham, her brother Stephen md his sister Bennetta.

Will of John Brooke dated feb 7 1582 contained direction that this epitaph should be written verbatim over his grave. This Will is in Const. 35.19.May 1582 24 of Elizabeth and proved 7 Feb.1582-3."His landed property to wife
Magdaline for life-and after her death the Brooke( which is described at great length) is left to John Hougham, my Godson,the son of Richard Hougham" also Michael Hougham,son of Michael Huffam gets some property in East Street. (John Hougham is his heirs male- in other words he Bennetta who md Stephen Hougham was next heir to John Brooke, land her nephew John dying without children,and Bennetta being dead, the inheritance goes to her children)
